Job Summary

The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the church's infrastructure. Regular inspection and maintenance tasks are crucial, alongside prioritizing and reporting issues to the Executive Director. This role requires a thorough understanding of all building systems such as electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and security. Having access to a vehicle will be helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Regular inspection and maintenance of building system

  • Housekeeping and organizational tasks

  • Managing thrift store donations, including sorting and disposal

  • Ordering and maintaining cleaning supplies

  • Assessing cleaning standards and addressing deficiencies

  • Seasonal tasks around the building and grounds

  • Maintenance and handyman tasks

  • Coordinating with contractors for more extensive repairs

  • Occasionally undertaking special maintenance projects

Skills and abilities

  • Familiarity with various building systems

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to assess and prioritize maintenance needs

  • Experience in a similar custodial or maintenance role is preferred

  • Ability to be personable with people of all ages, especially with seniors

  • Possess some basic handyman qualities and be a self starter

Hours of Work:

This role is a permanent part-time position with flexibility in the hours worked.  It can be either 16 hours a week from Monday to Thursday or 20 hours a week from Sunday to Thursday. Except for Sunday, where you would be supporting our worship service, the timing of weekday hours worked is negotiable. Sunday’s hours are 8:30am to 12:30pm. 

Remuneration:

The hourly wage range is $30 to $35.  Three weeks of paid vacation is included. The role is eligible for the benefits and pension plan provided by the United Church of Canada.
