Children and Youth Minister
We are currently searching for a Children and Youth Minister. This position will be a 20 hours/week permanent position.
Our Children and Youth Minister:
Seeks to know and love our children and youth.
Integrates them in the life and worship of our church family.
Is committed to leading programs that develop and nurture our children and youth in their faith.
Is an engaging and enthusiastic leader.
Success is When:
We have children and youth who meet regularly to explore their faith and develop their relationship with God.
We have children and youth who want to grow in their friendship and fellowship with one another.
We have children and youth who are excited to be a part of the congregation of WVUC and are keen to participate in the life and ministry of our church.
General Responsibilities:
Teach and model a sense of faith and values that gives children and youth direction, guidance, and support in their lives.
Provide opportunities for the kind of relationships that will nurture their spiritual growth.
Work closely with the ministers and Youth and Family committee for short and long-term planning and direction.
Participate in community outreach activities.
Support and encourage children and youth to participate in congregational activities.
Communicate with the congregation about our children and youth ministry.
Children’s Ministry Responsibilities:
Develop relationships with children and their families.
Recruit, co-ordinate and supervise volunteers as leaders.
Co-ordinate regular weekly programming.
Organize, in conjunction with the ministers and the appropriate committees, special events for children and their families.
Youth Ministry Responsibilities:
Be in regular contact with our youth to build strong, trusting, and open relationships.
Be an active leader in our youth group through running weekly programming and helping other volunteers nurture the youth within this group.
Organize and run special events for youth.
Support the efforts of the North Shore Youth Initiative.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Is a growing disciple of Jesus Christ with a servant heart and genuine faith.
Has a passion for ministry to children and youth.
Has previous experience working with children and youth.
Is able to engage children and youth and also develop a good rapport with their parents.
Is able to work with and lead a team, utilizing sound judgment and initiative.
Is able to mentor to a variety of children and youth needs. Is able to communicate with difficult and challenging children and youth.
Will ideally have or be in the process of obtaining theological/youth ministry education.
